Austrian bass Oliver Sailer has been a member of the ensemble at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck since 2021 and can be seen there this season in the title role of Don Quichote (Massenet), among other roles. In 2026/27, his role debuts as Leporello (W.A. Mozart: Don Giovanni) and Zuniga (G. Bizet: Carmen) are on the program. In recent years, he has already appeared as Pistola (G. Verdi: Falstaff), Gremin (P.I. Tchaikovsky: Eugene Onegin), the Cook in Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges, Colline in Puccini’s La bohème, Angelotti and Sagrestano (Tosca), Sarastro (The Magic Flute), Don Alfonso (Cosi fan tutte), and Orest’s Nurse (Elektra).
In 2022, a recording of the St. Matthew Passion featuring the Wilten Boys’ Choir was released, in which Oliver Sailer can be heard as Jesus. In the summer of 2021, he made his debut at the Tyrolean Festival Erl as the Third Brabant Nobleman in Wagner’s Lohengrin.
In 2021, Oliver Sailer graduated with honors from the Tyrolean State Conservatory, where he studied voice under Prof. Mag. Johannes Stecher. He also earned teaching degrees in mathematics from the Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck and in music education from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he majored in voice under Univ. Prof. Peter Ullrich.
He is currently also studying voice at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (as part of a joint program with the Tyrolean State Conservatory).
He has had the opportunity to work with KS Peter Schreier, Univ. Prof. Karlheinz Hanser, KS Vesselina Kasarova, KS Prof. Olaf Bär, and Prof. Michelle Breedt in various master classes. He is a scholarship recipient of Academia Vocalis, the Eva Lind Music Academy of Tyrol, and the Richard Wagner Association.
In 2018, he won first prize in the “Musica Juventutis” competition and was invited to perform a recital at the Vienna Konzerthaus. Based on his performance at that concert in March 2020, “Musica Juventutis” awarded him a special prize, following which he was invited to give a recital at the Blaibach Konzerthaus.
Even while he was still in training, he performed in many concerts, including Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and St. Matthew Passion, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, and Haydn’s The Seasons. Concert tours took him to Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Romania, and China, among other places.
Born in Hall in Tirol in 1994, Oliver Sailer began his vocal training at the age of six with the renowned Wilten Boys’ Choir. He was soon performing as a soprano soloist in masses and concerts. Through the choir’s participation in various opera productions, he was able to gain his first impressions of the theater at an early age.
