Milan-born director, cultural mediator and cultural manager Alexander Medem is a German Peruvian of Russian origin. He studied musicology and theatre studies at the University of Vienna and theatre and film directing at the Drama Centre London with the UK’s first female director (Di Trevis) and is a trained pianist. In 2016, he completed a master’s program in Cultural Management at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. His teachers there included Thomas Angyan, Rudolf Berger and Matthias Naske
From 2008 to 2010, Alexander Medem was assistant director at the Burgtheater Vienna and subsequently gained extensive experience as a freelance assistant with Plácido Domingo, Christof Loy, Thaddeus Strassberger, Peter Konwitschny, Jürgen Flimm and Graham Vick at the Theater an der Wien, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Hamburg State Opera, the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp and the Bregenz Festival, among others.
As a freelance director, he is particularly interested in musical theatre and has a lot of experience with children’s and youth theatre and also performs as a narrator and actor.
