The Russian mezzo-soprano Taisiya Albani (née Labetskaya) was engaged as an alto at the St. Gallen Theatre in 2019-2020. Her first roles there were the Third Wood Elf in ‘Rusalka’ and Marthe Schwerdtlein in ‘Faust’. Her debut as Cornelia in ‘Giulio Cesare’ unfortunately fell victim to the closure of the theatre due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2016 Taisiya sang the alto solo in Sergej Rachmaninov’s all-night vigil “Das große Abend- und Morgenlob” at the Festival Wiener OsterKlang under Johannes Hiemetsberger. During a tour of the renowned Moerbisch Operetta Festival in Daegu (Korea), the young singer appeared as Orlofsky in Johann Strauss’ operetta “The Bat”.
During her studies in Vienna, Taisiya Albani gained stage experience in the role of the Mother in “Mavra” by Igor Stravinsky, Arnalta in “L’incoronazione di Poppea” by Claudio Monteverdi, Mrs. Quickly in Verdi’s “Falstaff”, Andronico in Handel’s “Tamerlano”, Olga in “Eugene Onegin” by P.I. Tschaikowsky, priestess in “King Arthur” by Henry Purcell, and 3rd Lady in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”.
In St. Petersburg she already appeared in several baroque operas, among others as Comus and 3rd Saxon Priest in “King Arthur” by Henry Purcell.
The young mezzo-soprano held a scholarship of the George London Foundation of the Friends of the Vienna State Opera in 2018; in 2017 she was a finalist at the 5th International Peter Edelmann Competition.
Born in St. Petersburg in 1992, Taisiya Albani received her training at the Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music in her home city before continuing her vocal studies with Karlheinz Hanser at the University of Music and Performing Arts, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2017.
In addition to her excellently developing career, she also completed her master’s degree in music drama performance in 2021, also in Vienna, in the class of Prof. Karlheinz Hanser, Prof. Beverly Blankenship, Prof. Helen Malkowksy and Prof. Peter Marschik.
