Austrian mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert recently gave scintillating rôle debuts as Charlotte in Massenet’s “Werther” and as Niclausse/Muse in Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann”, in May she attends to her other love and sings lied recitals, accompanied by Graham Johnson, at the Klavierfestival Ruhr: one with works by Schubert, the other one, with selections from Hugo Wolf’s Italienisches and Spanisches Liederbuch, and with baritone Wolfgang Resch at her side.
Later this month, in Barcelona, Ms. Rennert is hosted by Ottavio Dantone’s Accademia Bizantina to lend her voice to Irene in George Frideric Handel’s “Tamerlano”.
