South African tenor Siyabonga Maqungo gave voice and presence to the character of the Jeweller in the world premiere of Peter Eötvös’ opera “Sleepless” at the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden. He reprised the role at performances at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and in Budapest, and in the June 2023 revival, he will once again take on this role. He will also begin rehearsals for the Bayreuth Festival in June.
