Philipp Kapeller in a World Premiere in Hanover

Following his outstanding success as Amos Hart in the musical Chicago at the Hanover State Opera, Austrian tenor Philipp Kapeller stepped in at short notice to sing the tenor part in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana in December. This ambitious project, performed with a dance ensemble and transcending the usual boundaries between disciplines, will also have one additional performance in January at the State Theatre Braunschweig.

Kapeller will then star as a weightlifter in the world premiere of Michael Wertmüller’s Echo 72 — Israel in Munich, an opera commissioned by the Hanover State Opera with a libretto by Roland Schimmelpfennig. The opera reflects on the terrorist attack on Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics — a poignant warning against hatred and denial.
