Artistic director and manager of the Oper Burg Gars Johannes Wildner has decided to show Mozart’s “The Abduction from the Seraglio” in a version for string quintet and accordion arranged by Tristan Schulze.
As in past years, the vocalists excel one and all: Siyabonga Maqungo, member of the Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin, will debut as Belmonte, Jacques-Greg Belobo, who is a household name at venues like Dresden’s Semperoper, and young Croat soprano Tamara Ivanis as Blonde. Ian Spinetti, who shone brilliantly as Jacquino in the 2019 production of “Fidelio”, returns to Gars to sing the part of Pedrillo, and Stephan Paryla-Raky lends his solid speaking voice to Bassa Selim. Lisa Padouvas, an up-and-coming Greek-Austrian director, is staging this delightful singspiel that was just the first of young Mozart’s many Viennese successes.
