“The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men gang / Gang aft agley”, as Robert Burns wrote. And so Austrian bass Christoph Seidl was supposed to play Fafner in Wagner’s “Siegfried” at the Eurajoki in Finland, and it should have been his debut in that role, to boot. But, as happens so often these days, members of the ensemble are indisposed, and the performance had to be cancelled.
So far at least, Mr. Seidl’s plans to sing the bass part in Rossini’s “Stabat Mater” remain unaffected, and he is looking forward to joining the Essen Philharmonic unter conductor Tianyi Lu.
