In June, baritone Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger wooed and won Lavaux with his Lied interpretations at the Lavaux Classic Festival, where he and accompanist Helmut Deutsch offered a memorable “Liebeswalzer-Lieder” cycle by Brahms. He proved his festival chops in 2016, as Don Giovanni in a production of the Bregenz Festival opera studio. Last year, he was invited to sing the part of Morales in Bizet’s Carmen – and this year he not only reprises this role in “Carmen” on the impressive Seebühne but also performs as Marzio in “Beatrice Cenci” von Berthold Goldschmidt, a little-known jewel of an opera that will première on July 18th at the Festspielhaus Bregenz.
