Valentina Kutzarova was to perform numerous chamber concerts in 2020 with songs by Shostakovich, Borodin, R.Hahn, M.Ravel, E.Grieg and others, as well as contemporary music such as the alto part in the “Syrian Requiem” by George Alexander Albrecht with the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra under Marko Letonja. All of this unfortunately fell victim to the Corona pandemic.
Most recently, Valentina Kutzarova was heard as Felipewna in “Eugene Onegin” at the Linz Musiktheater, in the 9th Symphonie by Beethoven with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, as Angelina in the new production of “La Cenerentola” at the City Theater Varna in Bulgaria, with the Lied der Waldtaube” from the “Gurrelieder” by Arnold Schoenberg with the ensemble “Kontrapunkte” at the Vienna Musikverein, as Zweite Magd in two concert performances of “Elektra” by R. Strauss in Frankfurt and Dortmund under the direction of Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
At the Linz Landestheater, she has enjoyed great success in recent years with the title role of “Countess Mariza,” with Octavian in the opening premiere of the new Linz Opera House alongside Anne Schwanewilms and Kurt Rydl, a role she also performed in the new production of “The knight of the rose” at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck in 2015. She also returned to Innsbruck shortly thereafter as Clairon in the new production of “Capriccio” by R. Strauss.
Valentina Kutzarova has already worked with conductors such as Giovanni Antonini, Maurizio Barbacini, Wolfgang Bozic, Frans Brüggen, Dennis Russel Davies, Adam Fischer, Reinhard Goebel, Alain Guingal, Julia Jones, Philippe Jordan, Peter Keuschnig, Jiři Kout, Marko Letonja, Andrea Marcon, Günter Neuhold, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Adrien Perruchon, Roberto Rizzi-Brignoli, Nello Santi, Martin Sieghart, Laurent Wagner, Johannes Wildner, Marco Zambelli, David Zinman, and directors such as Philippe Arlaud, Romeo Castellucci, Giancarlo del Monaco, Francesco Esposito, Nicholas Hytner, Brigitte Jacques-Wajeman, Barrie Kosky, Uwe Laufenberg, Christof Loy, Reto Nickler, Pier Paolo Pacini, Leonard Prinsloo, Olivier Tambosi, Paolo Trevisi, and Francesca Zambello.
After engagements in Pleven (Bulgaria) and at the Zurich International Opera Studio, she was an ensemble member in St. Gallen (Switzerland) and then in Linz (Austria) from 1993-99. During this time, she debuted in many great mezzo-soprano roles such as: Charlotte (“Werther”), Annio (“La clemenza di Tito”), Dorabella (“Così fan tutte”), Hansel (“Hansel and Gretel”), Cherubino (“Le nozze di Figaro”), Amastre (“Serse”, Handel), Prince Orlofsky (“The Bat”), Rosina (“Il barbiere di Siviglia”), Octavian (“The knight of the rose”) and Niklausse (“The tales of ‘Hoffmann”) as well as in the title roles of Bizet’s “Carmen” and Rossini’s “L’italiana in Algeri”. Since then, numerous guest contracts with roles such as Cherubino, Adalgisa, Romeo (“I Capuleti e i Montecchi”), Octavian, Angelina, Elisabetta (“Maria Stuarda”), Rosina (“Il barbiere di Siviglia”), Giulietta (“The tales of Hoffmann”) Suzuki or Donna Elvira have taken her to important opera houses, such as the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. the Hanover State Opera, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Verdi in Sassari, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Theater Basel, the Theater St. Gallen, the Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, the Opéra de Montpellier, the Opéra d’Avignon, the Theater of Las Palmas and the Theatre of Bilbao, the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, the NCPA Bombay as well as to the Festival de Mayo in Guadalajara (Mexico), to the Bregenz Festival, and to the Opera Bastille in Paris.
In 1995 Valentina Kutzarova won the Grand Prix of the Jury and the First Prize of the Audience at the International Singing Competition in “Rocca delle Macie” in Siena and in 1997 the Second Prize and the Special Prize for the best interpretation of Grieg songs at the International “Queen Sonja” Music Competition in Oslo.
Valentina Kutzarova received her first musical education in her hometown Varna (Bulgaria) and graduated from the Music Academy of Sofia.
