Director Thilo Reinhardt was born in Heidelberg in 1966 and first studied medicine in Siena, then musical theatre directing with Götz Friedrich in Hamburg. From 1995 to 1997, he was an assistant director at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, where he worked with Friedrich Meyer-Oertel and others, before becoming personal assistant to Ruth Berghaus, Achim Freyer and Werner Schröter. He received important impulses through workshops with Harry Kupfer and Peter Konwitschny.

Thilo Reinhardt made his debut at the Komische Oper Berlin in the 2007/08 season with the production of Jacques Offenbach’s ‘The Tales of Hoffmann’. After ‘The Queen of Spades’, his third work at this theatre followed in the 2010/11 season, the production of Richard Strauss’ “Salome”.
Reinhardt’s directing work has also taken him abroad: He staged ‘Cavalleria rusticana / I Pagliacci’ in Taipei, ‘Le nozze di Figaro’ in Daegu (South Korea), ‘Don Giovanni’ at the festival in St. Margarethen (Austria), ‘Don Carlo’ at the Gars Castle Opera, ‘Rusalka’ at the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck.
Reinhardt wrote ballet libretti for Mario Schröder, the chief choreographer of the Leipzig Ballet (‘Chaplin’, ‘Christmas Story’, ‘Othello’, ‘St John Passion’, ‘Swan Lake’).
In 2008/9, Reinhardt held a lectureship for scenic teaching at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar. In 2013, he was a guest lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Since 2014, Reinhardt has held various teaching positions at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in the Music Theatre Directing course, at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden and at the HfMdK Frankfurt.
