From Violetta Valéry (La traviata) through Gilda (Rigoletto), Abigaille (Nabucco), and the title role in Giovanna d’Arco, to Lucrezia Contarini in I due foscari, the versatile Georgian soprano Sophie Gordeladze has already sung numerous Verdi roles to great acclaim. Before appearing in Vienna as Sara in Marianna Martines’ composition Isacco, she takes on the soprano part in what is often ironically called “Verdi’s best opera”, the Messa da Requiem.
