Director Dominik Wilgenbus is known for his humorous and stylish adaptations that make the great works of opera literature accessible to a very broad audience. This time, he tackles Georges Bizet’s Carmen, retelling it with charm and animal humor for children as young as four: Die Kuh Carmen (The Cow Carmen) is a colorful, witty ”moosical” for kids. The story revolves around the self-assured cow Carmen, who embarks on an adventure to the big city of Seville with the wild bull Moostafa – always accompanied by the turbulent plans of their farmer.
Wilgenbus’ adaptation, entertaining and educating both, is performed on stage by Tina Drole, Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger, and Miljenko Turk, all members of the ensemble of the Cologne Opera.
