After a series of major role debuts in the dramatic repertoire—Wozzeck, Don Giovanni, the four villains in The Tales of Hoffmann, Peter Besenbinder in Hansel and Gretel, and Father Germont in La traviata, to name but a few—Austrian baritone Thomas Essl is returning to his comic talents. At Chemnitz Opera, he takes on the role of Professor Würmchen in the semi-staged performance of Carl Zeller’s Der Vogelhändler. Together with his colleague Süffle, he will perform the very well-known duet “Ich bin der Prodekan”, among other numbers.
