Following the revival of Ludger Vollmer’s Rummelplatz, baritone Thomas Essl makes another major role debut in Chemnitz: Count di Luna in Verdi’s Il trovatore. Count di Luna and the troubadour Manrico are both political opponents and rivals for Leonora’s love, and their conflict drives them to extremes. Jacopo Spirei directs the new production. Kens Lui, First Kapellmeister at Oper Chemnitz, takes charge of the musical direction.
