A young Gioachino Rossini composed his spirited “La gazzetta” on the basis of Carlo Goldoni’s 1763 comedy “Il matrimonio per concorso”, satirizing the influence of newspapers on people’s lives. Now that online dating and swiping right are well on their way to social acceptability, this opera, always fresh in its own right, also becomes quite timely.
Tamara Ivaniš, the young Croatian soprano who is currently a member of the ensemble of the Salzburger Landestheater, is a perfect match for Lisetta in this light-hearted opera, and the production staged by Alexandra Liedtke and conducted by Riccardo Minasi will not only allow her to shine with her brilliant coloraturas but also with her expressive acting.
