The German soprano Katharina Ruckgaber recently succeeded as Zerlina in a new production of Don Giovanni at the Flemish Opera in Ghent and Antwerp. She is now returning to the Lied. Together with baritone Johannes Kammler and pianist Evgenia Fölsche, she will perform Hugo Wolf’s song cycle The Italian Songbook at the Festival of Voices in Schaan (Liechtenstein).
Contemporary music also features regularly in Katharina Ruckgaber’s repertoire. She will perform Berio’s Sequenza III for female voice as part of the “Concerts in the Petralona Cave”. She has already presented this piece on her song CD Love And Let Die. The accompanying ensemble includes two violinists, two flutists, and Nikos Xanthoulis on the classical Greek lyra. The performance venue is equally unusual: the stalactite cave near Petralona on the Greek peninsula Chalkidiki, where a fossil skull at least 190,000 years old was found.
