Christoph Seidl: from ominous Sarastro to Schubert’s “Müllerin”

In February, Christoph Seidl played opposite Ilia Staple on the stage of the Gärtnerplatztheater. His Sparafucile is a dark, dark character, and Seidl’s rich bass honours Verdi’s intentions for Rigoletto in every nuance.

Come March, Ms. Staple and Mr. Seidl will meet on-stage again: As Sarastro, he will act as the Queen of the Night’s great opponent in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. The Munich public is then served a particular delicacy: The young Austrian bass sings Schubert’s “Die schöne Müllerin”, accompanied by Oleg Ptashnikov.
