Actors and screenwriters in Hollywood have gone on strike because they see their industry threatened by new technologies. To what extent do these threats also apply to classical music in all its forms? Are we dedicating ourselves to dying forms of human expressive power? Is classical music in danger of ending up in a museum, next to the steam locomotives and horse buggies, with something else taking its place? Or can we find a way for the evolution of art as nourishment for our souls?
We all probably have moments when we are a bit puzzled by the marketing of cultural events relying more on “big names” than on content. But then, small festivals and organizers succeed because they manage to generate enthusiasm for an idea, for a shared experience. So, let’s continue searching for new paths, for creativity and emotion: Let us remain courageous!
