In Innsbruck, Alexander Medem returns Norbert Zehm’s chamber opera to the stage

World première in 2018, followed by … COVID-19 and the, by now regrettably expected, associated postponements and delays: That was, hitherto, the fate of Alexander Medem’s production of Norbert Zehm’s chamber opera “Strange Meeting”.

But things change, and sometimes they even change for the better: This month, the work has returned to the stage of the “Vierundeinzig” cultural centre! With a Peter Wolf libretto, based on a poem by Wilfried Owen, this opera is a tragic document of the hope and despair in the closing days of the Great War – and a must-see.
