Katleho Mokhoabane as Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte

“The South African is one of the finest Mozart singers of his generation.” That was the verdict of the editorial team of the Culture Section at the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation after the premiere of La clemenza di Tito in March 2026, when the young tenor Katleho Mokhoabane appeared in the title role on the stage of the Vienna State Opera. He is now devoting himself to the next major Mozart role at his home theatre, the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden: Ferrando in Così fan tutte. Wiesbaden is taking over a production from the Opera of Lyon (France), in which director Marie-Ève Signeyrole invites twenty couples at each performance to take their seats on stage and experience the evening in the theatre with particular immediacy.
