Anton Legkii conducts Bizet’s early work in Mannheim

With the opéra comique Le docteur Miracle, the eighteen-year-old Bizet won the competition of the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens and secured, alongside ten successful subsequent performances, the patronage of Gioachino Rossini. His first collaboration with librettist Ludovic Halévy found its culmination eighteen years later in none other than Carmen. Under the gripping musical direction of Anton Legkii, members of the Nationaltheater Mannheim Opera Studio now perform Le docteur Miracle, this rarely heard early work of Bizet’s.
