Earlier this year, Arthur Schnitzler’s “Der Reigen” (“La Ronde”), as set to music by Bernhard Lang, saw its Austrian première at the Bregenzer Festspiele 2019. Now, this ground-breaking version of the “Reigen”, with Michael Sturminger’s libretto, is coming to the Neue Oper Vienna, staged by Alexandra Liedtke. Under the baton of Walter Kobéra, countertenor Thomas Lichtenecker once again takes on the parts of the Young Gentleman and of the Actress. The Südkurier commented on Lichtenecker’s Bregenz performance: “[…] In particular, countertenor Thomas Lichtenecker is perfectly satisfying and convincing. One must listen very closely indeed to locate the male voice behind this orotund soprano—and just as persuasive is his transsexual actress. […]”
