Austrian baritone Thomas Essl, who recently stepped in at short notice as Wozzeck in Würzburg and attracted attention as the father of the title character in the rarely performed opera Louise by Gustave Charpentier, now returns to a father role at Opera Chemnitz. As Giorgio Germont in Verdi’s La traviata, he attempts to straighten out his son Alfredo, persuading him away from his happiness with Violetta Valéry.
