Having grown up in Siberia, director Maxim Didenko has experienced first-hand how extreme cold can shape human behavior. Against this very personal backdrop, his production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera The Snow Maiden—about a girl who grows up in eternal ice and longs to meet other people—draws a connection to a world beyond the climate tipping point and to the ways in which society responds. Tenor Sascha Zarrabi sings the role of the Householder in this new production at Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, under the musical direction of General Music Director Leo McFall.
