Philipp Stölzl has created a spectacular stage design for his production of Carl Maria von Weber’s “Der Freischütz” at the Bregenz Festival on Lake Constance and demands equally spectacular performances from his singers. German soprano Katharina Ruckgaber has already proven herself as Ännchen, having sung the rôle in several productions of Freischütz and most recently in a semi-staged version under René Jacobs at the Elbphilharmonie. Not only is her voice a perfect fit for this role but she is also also an outstanding actress who is not afraid to take a leap into Lake Constance — literally!
