Busy: In June, Matthias Hoffmann commutes between Bonn and Cologne

Austrian bass-baritone Matthias Hoffmann might as well get a commuter ticket for the Bonn–Cologne–Bonn train: In June, he plays Masetto in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the Oper Bonn. Right afterward, the Oper Köln premières an Offenbachiad, occasioned by the bicentennial of Jacques Offenbach’s birth, and then, performance dates for the two productions interweave. The Offenbachiad was developed by Christian von Götz, the well-known opera director, and sees Offenbach visited by his most famous characters. “Je suis Jacques” features Offenbach’s music, of course, and Matthias Hoffmann will sing the role of Councillor Lindorf.
