It is more than half a year already, on December 4th, 2020, since the Oper Köln honoured the one hundredth anniversary of the world première of Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s opera “Die tote Stadt”. Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger, the young Austrian baritone, sang the part of Frank/Fritz, next to Burkhard Fritz and Aušrinė Stundytė, in a memorable performance that regrettably was only streamed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Now, however, the production returns to the stage in a series of shows in front of live audiences, and we cannot help but feel that this is right, that this is as it should be.
To divert us while we wait for “Die tote Stadt”, Mr Schwaiger offers us two concerts with the orchestra “Einklang – Philharmonie für alle” where he will sing Mahler’s “Rückert-Lieder” at Münster and at Telgte.
