This coming April, rising star tenor Siyabonga Maqungo returns to the Oper Wuppertal as Count Almaviva in Gioacchino Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia”. Last fall, the production (stage direction by Inga Levant, musical direction by Julia Jones) was adjusted to conform to the anti-Covid rules, but the run still had to be scrapped—which makes the work’s return to the stage even more exciting! In case no audiences will be allowed into the theatre in April, the production will be streamed.
