The best of friends ever since their years at school and university, Tyroleans Matthias Hoffmann and Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger have both joined the ensemble of the Oper Köln a few years ago. This season will see baritone Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger as Figaro in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” and as Fritz in Korngold’s “Die tote Stadt”, while bass-baritone Matthias Hoffmann looks forward to playing the Figaro in “Le Nozze di Figaro”, among other parts. To kick-off their season, however, they alternate as Papageno in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, staged by Michael Hampe.
