With its Fest der Operette at its reopened home theatre, Oper Köln celebrates the “Operettenfrosch” award for its production of Michael Krasznay-Krausz’s Eine Frau von Format. Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger appeared alongside Annette Dasch in the male lead role of Géza, Count of Tököli. As nmz wrote, he impressed “as the Hungarian ambassador and antagonist of Annette Dasch’s character (Dschilli Bey), above all through his charismatic vocal power and a portrayal that deliberately avoided the usual bon vivant clichés”. At the Fest der Operette, he once again appears alongside Annette Dasch, under the musical direction of Adam Benzwi.
He then plays King Günther from the East in the new children’s opera Der König verschenkt was. Commissioned by Oper Köln for audiences aged six and above, the work draws on the parable of the rings. Philipp Matthias Kaufmann composed the music to a libretto by Martin Baltscheit.
