Artistic Freedom in Politically Difficult Times

When we read the programmes of the far right—and even of the not quite so far right—which is currently gaining ground across large parts of Europe, we can only be concerned about the future of our theatres, orchestras and public broadcasters. However, the conviction that no one can continue producing without regard for the interests of the audience has now become established everywhere, and this has certainly had positive effects.
