Repeat engagements are among the greatest compliments a singer can receive. Since his 2016–17 debut at Theater Biel-Solothurn as Hans Scholl in Udo Zimmermann’s Die weiße Rose, Austrian baritone Wolfgang Resch has been regularly invited back for a wide variety of roles. This time he returns in one of his favorites, which he has sung to great acclaim at other opera houses as well—with charm, vivid characterization, and vocal presence: Papageno in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Directed by Anna Drescher and conducted by Meret Lüthi, the production will be performed fourteen times in Biel and Solothurn and will then “travel” to many guest venues.
