Working with young people, awakening their interest in and enthusiasm for music, has always been dear to\u00a0Johannes Wildner\u2019s<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0heart and continues to be so; his work with youth orchestras the world over, his choices wherever he was responsible for the programming, reflect the Austrian conductor\u2019s deeply-rooted interest.<\/p>\n

Invited by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra to conduct a concert in the series\u00a0\u201cKlassik Hits\u201d<\/a>, expressly geared towards families and children, his agreement was but a formality. Titled \u201cEin L\u00f6ffel voll Musik. Medizin f\u00fcr die Seele\u201d (\u201cA spoonful of music. Medicine for the soul\u201d) and narrated by Marko Simsa, the programme stretches from Khachaturian\u2019s \u201cSabre Dance\u201d via Elgar and Smetana to Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss II, and Offenbach.<\/p>\n

In mid-March,\u00a0Maestro Wildner<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0rejoins the S\u00f8nderjylland Symphony Orchestra\u202f\u2014\u2009he is its Principal Conductor\u202f\u2014\u2009to present Johann Sebastian Bach\u2019s\u00a0\u201cSt John Passion\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in Tyrstrup and, fittingly, at the L\u00f8gum monastery.<\/p>\n

On an unrelated note, resigning from his position as Professor of Conducting at Vienna\u2019s University of Performing Arts, Mr Wildner has been invited to fill the position of Conducting Mentor at the\u00a0Conductor\u2019s Workshop<\/a>\u00a0with the Critical Orchestra; organized by the Hanns Eisler School of Music, the project seeks to refine the \u201ccareer preparation for conductors from the perspective of influential musicians\u201d.<\/p>\n
