Siyabonga Maqungo\u2019s<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0fall and early winter were certainly busy; he mounted the stage in r\u00f4les as diverse as Froh in Wagner\u2019s \u201cRheingold\u201d under Christian Thielemann, Valeriano in Vivaldi\u2019s \u201cIl Giustino\u201d with Ren\u00e9 Jacobs on the rostrum, Count Almaviva in Rossini\u2019s \u201cIl barbiere di Siviglia\u201d, and of course Tamino in \u201cThe Magic Flute\u201d at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, and next to all those, he found the time to perform the tenor parts in a highly acclaimed \u201cElias\u201d with the National Orchestra of Spain under David Afkham.<\/p>\n

Not one to rest on his well-deserved laurels, he begins the coming month with Mozart\u2019s\u00a0\u201cRequiem\u201d<\/a>\u00a0under the baton of Daniele Giorgi at the Teatro Manzoni in Pistoia, a venue steeped in 380 years of tradition and history, before preparing his \u201cPong\u201d for the next run of \u201cTurandot\u201d performances; and rounding out the month,\u00a0Siyabonga Maqungo<\/a>\u00a0and his colleague baritone\u00a0Dominik K\u00f6ninger<\/a>\u00a0present \u201cChurch Music at the Prussian Court\u201d as part of an Early Music concert under Stefan Schuck.<\/p>\n
