On May 1st,\u00a0\u201cHippolyte et Aricie\u201d<\/a>, Jean-Philippe Rameau\u2019s first opera, premiered at the Nationaltheater Mannheim with\u00a0Sophie Rennert<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0as Ph\u00e8dre. The production, under stage director Lorenzo Fioroni and musical director Bernhard Forck, is available free of charge for streaming at\u00a0operavision.eu<\/a>\u2014a feast, an opulent feast, for the senses, a thrilling tale of love, lust, and despair, set to glorious music that has yielded not a whit of its awesome power despite having been slightly tightened up due to Corona restrictions.<\/p>\n

A few days later,\u00a0Sophie Rennert<\/strong>\u00a0is expected in Reggio Emilia where she mounts the stage as Piacere in Handel\u2019s \u201cIl trionfo del tempo e del disinganno\u201d, performed by the\u00a0Accademia Bizantina<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0with Ottavio Dantone at the rostrum.<\/p>\n

For Goettingen\u2019s\u00a0International Handel Festival<\/strong><\/a>, restricted to online \u201cvenues\u201d due to Covid,\u00a0Sophie Rennert<\/strong>\u00a0performs a concert, recorded to video for streaming and broadcast. \u201c50 Shades of Love\u201d offers works that George Frideric Handel wrote for voice or viola da gamba; Flora F\u00e1bri at the harpsichord provides for the basso continuo, and Matthias Bergmann plays the viola da gamba.<\/p>\n

Last but not least: After the concert\u2019s Covid-related cancellation last April,\u00a0Grafenegg<\/a>\u00a0has rescheduled Schubert\u2019s \u201cRosamunde\u201d, with\u00a0Sophie Rennert<\/strong>\u00a0and the Wiener Akademie under Martin Haselboeck, for May.<\/p>\n
