The Op\u00e9ra Nice C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur has chosen Fabrice di Falco<\/strong><\/a>, hailing from Martinique, for the role of Akhnaten in Philip Glass\u2019 eponymous opera<\/a>. L\u00e9o Warynski on the rostrum and Lucinda Childs as stage director and choreographer recreate the New Kingdom, and the countertenor brings the great Pharaoh to life who replaced Egypt\u2019s pantheon with the cult of the sun god Aton. Basing his work on inscriptions found in the pyramids, Glass describes Akhnaten\u2019s life from his ascension to the throne to his\u2014unsubstantiated\u2014violent overthrow.<\/p>\n
