The Bregenzer Festspiele are staging the Austrian premi\u00e8re of Bernhard Lang\u2019s opera \u201cDer Reigen\u201d<\/a>, based on Arthur Schnitzler\u2019s famous theatrical play. The composer has written two of the parts for countertenor; in contrast to the time at which the then-scandalous play was written, this allows for additional gender identities. Thomas Lichtenecker\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> glistening contra-tenor, under the baton of Walter Kob\u00e9ra, lends these roles not just his voice but life itself.<\/p>\n

Soon afterwards, Mr Lichtenecker steps into the shoes of \u201cThe Canterville Ghost\u201d<\/a> based on Oscar Wilde\u2019s 1887 short story. The M\u00fcnchener Kammeroper, for which Domenik Wilgenbus adapted the work, has the American family swinging to Gershwin tunes while the ghost, older by three hundred years, is accompanied by Henry Purcell and John Dowland.<\/p>\n
