Over the past three years, Austrian baritone\u00a0Thomas Essl<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has enjoyed success at the Chemnitz Opera House with a very broad repertoire, winning over audiences and critics as Wozzeck, Peter Besenbinder (H\u00e4nsel und Gretel<\/em>), Escamillo (Carmen<\/em>), and Marcello (La boh\u00e8me<\/em>). He begins the new season once again as Giorgio Germont, the father whose actions seal Violetta Valery\u2019s fate in\u00a0La Traviata<\/em><\/a>. Immediately thereafter he appears as Peter Loose in the world premiere of\u00a0Rummelplatz<\/em><\/a>, a Chemnitz Opera commission by composer Ludger Vollmer with a libretto by Jenny Erpenbeck. Based on Werner Br\u00e4unig\u2019s novel, the opera portrays life in post-war East Germany. Benjamin Reiners, the new General Music Director of Oper Chemnitz, conducts; Frank Hilbrich directs.<\/p>\n
