Danish soprano Dénise Beck‘s previous engagements include Leonora in Nielsen’s “Maskarade”, Pamina in “The Magic Flute” and Valencienne in Lehárs “The Merry Widow” at the Danish Royal Opera in Copenhagen, Zdenka in “Arabella” (concert) with Constantin Trinks at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, Olympia/Antonia/Stella/Giulietta in “The Tales of Hoffmann” at Norrlandsoperan, Umeå; Röschen in “Sleeping Beauty” by Humperdinck at Theater und Orchester Neubrandenburg / Neustrelitz, concerts with Aarhus Symfoniorkester (Canteloupe’s Chants d’Auvergne, Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3) and concerts with Esbjerg Ensemble.
Her engagements as Sophie Scholl in Zimmermann’s “White Rose” at the Odense Opera House and as Violetta Valéry in “La traviata” at the Funen Opera and numerous concerts, including with the Danish String Quartet at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, fell victim to the Corona crisis.
Dénise Beck has appeared as Adele in “The Bat”, as the flower girl in Wagner’s “Parsifal” and as soprano soloist in the New Year’s Concert at the Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen. On the concert scene she appeared in Niels W. Gade’s “Erlkönigstochter” with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of M. Schønwandt, under whose baton she also performed “Le Martyre de Saint Sebastien” at the Rued Langgaard Festival. She returned to this festival as “Solveig” in “Peer Gynth” by Edvard Grieg and sang the soprano parts in “Music of the Spheres” and “Sinfonia Interna” by Rued Langgaard with the Sönderjyllands Symfoniorkester conducted by David Niemand.
Apart from opera, Dénise Beck is a renowned oratorial singer. She has performed as soloist in the C minor mass by Mozart, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, Beethovens 9th Symphony, Gloria by Poulenc, the B minor mass by Bach, and many other masses and cantatas by Haydn, Mozart and Haendel. She has performed in concert with the Strauss Ensemble der Wiener Symphoniker, with whom she released a CD in 2012. In 2015 she also released a Unknown Nielsen CD published with Johan Reuter. In 2016, she embodied the title role in the opera “La Douce” by Emmanuel Nunes at the Staatsoper Berlin and in 2018, she participated with the Zafraan Ensemble in the world premiere of the music theatre “Whole Body Like Gone” at Radialsystem Berlin.
Dénise Beck has worked with conductors and directors such as Michael Schønwandt, Thomas Dausgard, Marcus Stenz, Michael Boder, Johannes Wildner, David Pountney, Kasper Holten, Anna Bergmann and Alexander Mørk-Eidem.
Another interest of Dénise Beck is contemporary music (operas, masses, lieder…). She has thus performed at the Tiroler Festspiele in a new mass by Christoph Cech, which was broadcasted on Ö1 (The National Radio in Austria). She also performed at the Konzerthaus Wien with songs for soprano and orchestra by the swedish composer Fredrik Bobr. She has performed with ensemble Zafraan in Berlin and (among others) performed pieces by Nicolai Worsaae, György Ligeti and Martin Hiendl.
She has received several Prizes such as: Aalborg Opera Prize 2017, Else Brems Prize 2015, The Inga Nielsen Prize, the Talent Award of the Danish National Radio 2011 and was announced Sonning Laureate 2012. She was also was awarded the 1st prize in the Danish competition Young Singers in 2004, just before she was accepted at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. She studied with Franz Lukasovsky, Sir Charles Spencer and Istvan Bonyhadi. Dénise Beck has received the Axel Schiøtz Prize 2016 for her interpretation of and dedication to the Lied-Genre.
Already during her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Danish soprano Dénise Beck made her debut at the Volksoper Wien as Comtesse Anastasia in “The Csárdás Princess” and at the Salzburger Landestheater as Blonde in “The Abduction from the Seraglio”.
She is also a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where she studied with Kirsten Buhl-Møller, Ulrich Stærk, Mikael Eliasen and Bo Skovhus.
