Jacques-Greg Belobo, bass-baritone
Jacques-Greg Belobo first started his voice studies in his native town Yaoundé in Cameroon, before he continued his studies at the Conservatoire National de Musique of Nice where he won the gold medal for singing in 1998. He then continued his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris where he passed his diploma in 2001.
He won various international singing competitions, among others he won 5 prizes in the Internationaln Belvedere-Competition Vienna, among others engagements to the Dresden Semperoper, Strasbourg Opera du Rhin, the Vienna Chamber Opera and the Cologne Philharmonic Hall.
After one and a half years as a member of the Young Ensemble of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Jacques-Greg Belobo moved to Semperoper Dresden in 2003, where he been singing roles like Sarastro ("Magic Flute"), Il Re and Rafmis ("Aida"), Colline ("La Bohème"), Banco ("Macbeth"), Brander ("Faust"), Lodovico ("Otello"), Giorgio ("I Puritani"), Escamillo ("Carmen"), Taddeo ("L'Italiana in Algeri"), Leporello and Komtur ("Don Giovanni"), Figaro ("Le Nozze di Figaro"), Oroveso ("Norma"), Timur ("Turandot"), Biterolf ("Tannhäuser"), Un Frate ("Don Carlo"), Ferrando ("Il Trovatore"), Kaspar and Eremit ("Der Freischütz") Dijab ("L'Upupa"), Titurel ("Parsifal").
In addition to his Dresden commitment, Jacques-Greg Belobo regularly appears in other opera houses and festivals, such as over the last years in Vienna, Paris, Nice, Salzburg, Tokyo and Tel Aviv.
Jacques-Greg has cooperated with conductors like Philippe Bender, Ivor Bolton, Myung-Whun Chung, Jacques Delacôte, James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Zubin Mehta, Michel Piquemal, Marc Soustrot, Sebastian Weigle, Johannes Wildner und Massimo Zanetti.
He has also made himself good reputation as a concert singer with works such as "Scenes from Goethe's Faust" (Schumann), Mahler's 8th symphony, Verdi's "Requiem", Dvorak "Stabat Mater", Mozart's "Coronation Mass", Rossini's "La Petite Messe Solennelle", Brahm's "Deutsches Requiem", various Bach Cantatas and Fauré's Requiem.
Among the orchestras, he has performed with, are the MDR Symphony, the Israel Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, the Munich Philharmonic orchestra and Staatskapelle Dresden, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague and in 2012, with the Orchestra Sinfonica dell'Accademie di Santa Cecilia under Maestro Fabio Luisi ("Buch mit 7 Siegeln", Franz Schmidt).
